How To Create Ribbons in Adobe Illustrator CS6 in 5 easy steps.

Today I am going to share with you a very simple way of making Ribbon in Adobe Illustrator CS6. Ribbons are always needed in graphic design projects. Instead of searching for free vector graphics online why not make one yourself? Simply follow my steps and you will see how easy it is.


Let's Start,

1) Make a Rectangle like shown below. You can make any size you want big or small.



 2) Make another rectangle but a smaller one like shown below. Keep its color darker than your first rectangle.

3) Select the smaller rectangle and Go to Object > path > Add anchor Points. This will simply make some anchor points on the rectangle. Select the middle anchor point and drag it in or press shift + Left arrow key 2-3 times until you get the desired shape. Now right click and select Arrange > Send to Back.


4) Now create a triangle with pen tool as shown below. Make its color even more darker.

5) Group the triangle and smaller rectangle and then reflect and paste it on the other side of big rectangle. Select the Type tool and add some text to it .



In 5 simple steps you have your Ribbon is ready. To make more versions of it is even simpler once you have this base ready.

The process is really simple all you have to do is group this ribbon by selecting all and then pressing Clt G. Then you have to go to effects > wrap > and choose any option you want. In the dialog box play with the bend value to get the desired effect.

1) Go to effects > wrap > Arc. In the dialog box enter in the value you need in bend field eg 21.


2) Go to effects > wrap > Flag. In the dialog box enter in the value you need in bend field eg 34.

3) Go to effects > wrap > Rise. In the dialog box enter in the value you need in bend field eg 34.


4) Go to effects > wrap > Fish eye. In the dialog box enter in the value you need in bend field eg 10.
As Simple As that you have 4 versions from 1 format.

You can also create a ribbon that is a bit different than this. See the example below.

In the same way go to effects > wrap > arc and enter in the value of -18 for bend.

If you want to take your ribbon further try adding gradients to your base ribbon. Add the desired effect and you have your ribbon ready.

Once happy with the effect you can go ahead and make changes to the shape with direct selection tool. Alternatively you can expand appearance of the group and then make any changes you want.
