how to use width tool in Adobe Illustrator 2021

Adobe Illustrator CS6 Width Tool is a magic in itself. It helps create variable width for your stroke as easily as using a graphic tablet. Before this tool was launched you had to follow numerous steps just to get that width change in your stoke.

how to change line thickness in illustrator 2021

So let’s see how it works,

1) Make a path with pen tool or pencil tool.
 2) Select the Width Tool from the tools pallet or press shift W and hover it over the path you will see white dots. These white dots are your width shifting points. Click on any point and drag in or out the way you want your stroke to look.
3) You can also adjust the width of individual point. Select the width tool hover over the point and Shift click on that point it opens a dialog box. Enter the width you need in total width field. I have entered 24.5px.
 4) Side 1 refers to the top part or side of the stroke. To change only the top side of the stroke enter the value needed as in this case is 24px.

  5) Side 1 refers to the lower part or side of the stroke. To change only the lower or bottom side of the stroke enter the value needed as in this case is 25px.

6) To adjust width proportionately click on the link icon between side 1 and side 2. This will scale both the sides of stroke ie top and bottom side equally.

7) So that's it use your mouse point hover over the point and push or pull the point to adjust its width. Let's see the difference it can make to drawing by an example. Below I have top drawing of a character without any width change. This looks quit flat an unattractive. Then I went ahead and used the width Tool and see the difference. This width change has made the drawing look more appealing.
